Promotrans is a leading French national association in transport and logistics in the area of both vocational training and higher education. It was established in 1966 so as to provide the quick-evolving road haulage industry with the appropriate staff fulfilling professional skills requirements. Over the years the association has gained the recognition of the Ministry of Transport, the Ministry of Employment and the Ministry of Education for the quality of its teaching and learning programmes. The association currently numbers 600 employees. Promotrans’ primary aim is to maximise people’s opportunities within the transport and logistics sector by providing them with appropriate skills through its network of 30 training centres and schools nationwide. Promotrans delivers 2,500,000 hours of training and trains over 40,000 people every year.
Promotrans has developed significant pedagogical expertise in professional driver training ever since it was created, especially with the introduction of the obligatory periodic training for professional drivers (CPC driver) in France as early as 1996. The directive 2003/59/EC has extended this obligation at EU level, requiring drivers to refresh and update their qualification through periodic training of 35 hours every 5 years. The Driver Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC / CAP) has been a focus of attention for years within Promotrans and it has entailed profound changes in traditional driving training practices and methods. These changes have highlighted the importance of new technologies (digital tachograph, driving simulator) and new driving approaches (economic and safe driving, emphasis on driver’s well-being and responsibilities). The partnership will be able to rely on Promotrans’ established expertise and experience of road freight transport environment (training, technical, legislative, social, road, environmental and economic environment).
