Croatia’s activities for the month of October

This month our task was to find and get in touch with as many social entrepreneurs for the Alumni club as possible. Our choice was narrowed by a condition that the entrepreneurs are supposed to be former students from our school, Prva sušačka Hrvatska gimnazija u Rijeci, which was the main problem that was standing in our way. However, we asked most of our professors to help us find them. In this segment, an issue was that they haven't stayed in touch with the people we needed, but our geography professor Maja Matejčić Šimić and Sanja Padavić, who also takes part in the SEED project, suggested us two women, social entrepreneurs Ana Fabijan and Bojana Guberac. Finally someone we could put on our list! Another place we succeeded to find our man was, of course, Instagram, and the chosen one's name is Antonio Požar. We will continue with searching for the entrepreneurs in order to fulfill the list, so if you know anyone whose job is connected with SE in any aspect, feel free to help us get in touch with them!

Bojana is a journalist who started her career by volunteering in Radio Rijeka and for the Rijeka local daily newspaper Novi list and ended up working for them.

„I wish you all three things: to volunteer, to be fearless and to find the problem, and not only to detect that problem but also a solution to it.“

She also wrote an article about what we are doing in the SEED project, some of our goals, and the interview with Sanja Padavić, our English and Spanish professor. If you want to read the whole article you can find it on the following link:

Ana was working in a confectionery production for 10 years, where cakes and cookies were being made of natural ingredients. „Our goal was to support local businesses and to make healthy products.“

Now Ana is employed in a non-governmental organization. They encourage social changes for the well-being of our community. In the last project they participated in they cooperated with the long-term unemployed victims of domestic abuse and people on social care, who completed some educational programs of their own choice.

Antonio worked for the European External Action Service (EEAS) for 2 years, but now he's unemployed. „A key aspect of the work of the EEAS is its ability to work closely with the foreign and defense ministries of the member states of the EU and the other EU institutions such as the European Commission, Council, and Parliament.“ (European Union External Action, https://eeas.europa.eu/headquarters/headquarters-homepage/82/about-european-external-action-service-eeas_en)
